As a result of the new Transitional Demand tariff which became the default tariff on July 1, 2021, having solar power on the Gold Coast has changed. What are solar batteries:
A solar battery is often installed on an external house wall or in a garage, where it then stores energy from a solar system. This storing of energy comes from the solar panel system absorbing energy from the sun, which is then converted to electricity for your home.
A solar battery acts as an additional component to your system. It allows you to store the excess energy your solar panels produce during the day to then use at a later time, for example in the evening when your panels are no longer producing energy.

How do they work:
The battery works by using the solar energy produced during the day to charge itself so you have the energy to use later. Think of it like how you would charge your phone when you’re not using it, then when you need it, it is fully charged. With the new Transitional Demand tariff, installing a battery allows you to reduce the amount of energy you need to purchase from the grid, during the peak time (4pm to 9pm), saving you money.
