Auswell Energy shares three tips to consider if you are thinking of buying a solar power solution for your home.
As of January 2021, over 25% of available residential homes on the Gold Coast have sought solar power solutions for their homes, making the Gold Coast the front runners for having the highest solar power penetration rate in the nation.
Situated in the sunshine state, the Gold Coast has an average of 300 days of sunshine every year. With the cost of living increasing, it’s no surprise residents on the east coast have been taking advantage of the sunshine and cutting down their power bills by investing in a solar powered solutions.
If you’re thinking of going solar, here is a quick checklist of things to consider:
1. Check your roof
Solar panels are generally best positioned when north facing, and not blocked out with shade from trees or other buildings. Having said that, being in the sunshine state, houses in regions such as Brisbane, the Sunshine or Gold Coasts, or Tweed Heads will usually receive ample enough light for powering solar panels and are still able to enjoy the benefits of going solar.
2. Check your usage habits
Solar systems generate electricity when the sunlight hits the panels during the daytime, so if you don’t have a battery as part of your solar system, you won’t retain any electricity captured during the day, for use at night.
Ask questions such as do you run a pool pump during the day, do you run a business from home, or is most of your family home in the evenings, and does your household power usage consumption increase after dark?
You can check your electricity usage by looking at your electricity bill from your current provider. To help weigh up how much money solar could be saving you, it is worth doing some research into different available systems for insight into estimated annual savings.
3. Do your research
After checking if your roof gets light and isn’t shaded and calculating your usage habits make sure you research hardware, warranty, installer and supplier. Write down any questions you might have and ask your certified solar supplier, and always purchase your solar system from an accredited Clean Energy Council Installer.
Investing in solar can seem like a big investment and navigating any information about government initiatives and incentives can seem quite daunting.
